Qué es este sitio
What this site is
calculadoranomina.us is an independent project that started in June 2026. It is not owned by a payroll company, an accounting firm, or a government agency, and it is not affiliated with the IRS, the California EDD, the Department of Industrial Relations (DIR), or the Franchise Tax Board. We are not accountants, lawyers, or licensed tax preparers, and we do not offer advice or services of any kind.
What we do is take the official rules — IRS tables, EDD withholding schedules, the California Labor Code — and turn them into tools and plain-language explanations that anyone can use without a background in taxes.
Para quién es
Who it's for
For hourly and salaried workers in California who get a W-2 paycheck and want to know how much will be withheld, what they take home, and whether they were paid correctly. We write mainly for people in construction, restaurants, cleaning, landscaping, warehouses, and farm work — and for anyone who would rather read this in Spanish.
Qué encontrarás aquí
What you'll find here
- Paycheck calculator: hourly or annual salary, four pay frequencies, three filing statuses, and two overtime modes (the simple federal rule and California's daily rule).
- Paycheck checker: compares what you received with an estimate of what you should receive and tells you whether the gap looks normal.
- Articles on how much is taken out of your paycheck, how to read your pay stub (in Spanish), take-home pay by hourly wage, the state and city minimum wage, overtime, SDI, and the difference between gross and net pay.
Cómo verificamos las cifras
How we verify the numbers
A wrong number about your paycheck can cost you money, so nothing goes on the site without these steps:
- Fuente oficial primero.
- Official sources first. Every rate, cap, and bracket comes from the official document (IRS publications, EDD tables, the text of the law or the city ordinance). When we use a third-party source (like UC Berkeley's inventory of local minimum wages), we say so and cross-check it against the official source.
- One calculation engine. The English calculator, the Spanish calculator, and the checker run exactly the same code. We test it against known examples and edge cases, and recalculate independently to confirm the results match.
- Articles use the same engine. When an article says how much someone earning $20 an hour takes home, that number comes from the calculator, not from a separate calculation.
- At least two reviews before publishing: one checking the numbers against the official source, and one line by line through the text. When we cite a source, we confirm that the specific page says exactly what we say it does.

Cuándo actualizamos
When we update
Payroll numbers change on predictable dates, and we review the site on each of them: in January (state minimum wage, most city minimum wages, federal brackets, SDI rate, and Social Security wage base) and on July 1 (when other city minimum wages go up, including San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Berkeley). If a law changes mid-year, we update as soon as the official figure is published. Every article shows the date it was last updated.
Si encuentras un error
If you find a mistake
We fix it. When we find an outdated or wrong figure, we search the whole site for it — not just the page where it showed up — and update the date on every page that changes. A real example: in July 2026 we corrected the share of wages SDI pays from 60–70% to 70–90%, because California's SB 951 raised it for claims starting in 2025. And in September 2026 we fixed the federal tax calculation: the calculator wasn't applying the part of your pay that IRS withholding tables leave untaxed, so it showed a lower take-home than it should. We updated the calculator, the checker and every article with examples. That same month we adjusted the California calculation for people who claim 0 allowances on their DE 4, or are married with 0 or 1 allowance, so it matches the EDD's official tables. If something doesn't look right, let us know through the contact page.

Your privacy, and how the site is funded
What the calculator doesn't cover
- Pre-tax deductions such as a 401(k) or health insurance.
- Self-employment (1099) income, which usually has no tax withheld (you pay it yourself), and bonuses, which are often withheld at a flat supplemental rate.
- Extra adjustments on the federal W-4 (dependents, other income, deductions or extra withholding): the calculator assumes a W-4 without them, so if you filled any in, your real paycheck will differ.
- Horas extra con bonos o comisiones, horarios alternativos (AWS) o contratos sindicales.
- Overtime that involves bonuses or commissions, alternative workweek schedules (AWS), or union contracts.
- If you earn more than $184,500 a year, the calculator spreads Social Security and the extra 0.9% Medicare (on pay above $200,000) evenly across all your paychecks. In real life, Social Security stops once you reach the cap, and the 0.9% starts once you pass $200,000 with the same employer, so your checks change during the year.
